Assignment Summary

Pentagon were engaged to support the design and implementation of a new Global Operating Model (‘GOM’) for a global asset manager covering all financial products. This encompassed both project management of the operating model design/implementation and supplying subject matter expertise throughout the project phases.

Approach

A comprehensive review of current operational activities was undertaken and a business case developed to address key operational challenges. This incorporated the documenting of a Global Operating Model design that would satisfy the following business objectives:

  • Improvement of investment returns and reduction in business risk
  • Service improvement to clients
  • Improvement of efficiency and existing functions
  • The ability to facilitate new product developments and improve service reliability by:
  1. Optimising business functions and reducing operational risk
  2. Extending STP qualities of the investment function
  3. Increasing the efficiency of the business

Challenges

The challenges in this project were associated with the global nature of the operational activities.

Outcome

A business case was produced, indicating operational changes, technology changes, impact on FTE utilisation and estimated costs. The next phase required the development of a data architecture that would not restrict future requirements driven by business growth or product development.
